Geoffrey Chandler

If Mr Chandler was suspected of the accidental killing of his wife and Dr Bogle, some also suspected him of double murder. Such speculation was, up to a point, natural. The person who finds the body is almost always the murderer. Next on the list of suspects comes the spouse. In the Bogle-Chandler case, such reasoning gives Michael McCormick, Dennis Wheway, Mr Chandler and Mrs Bogle as suspects. McCormick, Wheway and Mrs Bogle were very easily and rapidly eliminated. Hence, if it were murder, Mr Chandler was prime suspect by default.

This suspicion, however, does not fit with the facts. Mr Chandler was nowhere near the death scene when the deaths occurred, as was confirmed by independent witnesses. This leaves only the possibility that Mr Chandler, as a murderer, poisoned his wife and Dr Bogle at the party. This idea also lacks credibility. This man, who was fully aware of the fact that his wife was having an affair, and had done so in the past, was supposed to have murdered her and Bogle out of jealousy. This contradiction seems to have gone unnoticed by most.
