John Sherry was a street photographer who helped confirm Geoffrey Chandler's account of his movements in the early hours of 1 January 1963. Sherry was a passenger in a car in Burwood, travelling west on Parramatta Road at about 4:45am. Near a bus depot, the car that he was in overtook Geoffrey Chandler's car, which he recognised from having seen around the Croyden and Ashfield areas. He recognised Chandler but not the woman with Chandler, who was wearing a yellow scarf.
Sherry and the other people in the car were on his way to a church in Burwood, where early Mass started at 5am. As they arrived at the church at 4:55am, Chandler drove past, heading west.
Sherry later gave evidence at the inquest confirming what he'd witnessed of Geoffrey Chandler's movements.
