Mr Martin was a milk vendor in Chatswood, and on 1st January 1963 he entered Waratah Street from Spearman Street at about 4:15am. Dawn was breaking, but the street lights were still on. He was very sure about the time, because he kept a radio on in his car and checked constantly.
Quizzed at the Bogle-Chandler inquest about what he'd observed in Waratah Street, Mr Martin said that as he entered the street, a car was coming east towards him. It was a light Vauxhall or an early Austin or a Ford Prefect. It was not a Holden. A woman was driving.
Mr Martin further told the inquest that Ken and Ruth Nash were outside their house when he arrived. Mr Nash offered him a drink.
Finally, Mr Martin was asked about Geoffrey Chandler's distinctive silver Vauxhall. Mr Martin said that he hadn't seen it.
