Name:   Edwin Harold Batiste (or Edward)

Role:   Was at Fuller's Bridge

Status:   Deceased, 10th October 1977

Notes:

Mr Batiste was born at Hunter's Hill on 5th June 1895, the second youngest of 10 children. Educated at Hunter's Hill public school, he eventually became a Master Butcher, with butcher shops in Gladesville and Ryde.

On 25th January 1921 he married Rosa Burt. They were to have four children.

Mr Batiste trained greyhounds for a hobby. At 4:33am on 1st January, 1963, he was at Fuller's Bridge. He was there to take his greyhounds for exercise, on Chatswood Golf Course. He saw a Ford Prefect parked off Lady Game Drive.

There were two tracks leading to the Chatswood Golf Course; the lower track, beside which Bogle's body would later be found, and another track parallel to this but further up the hill. Mr Batiste used the upper track. Between the two tracks he saw an unoccupied cream station wagon with a dark top. When he left the area, at around 5:10am, the station wagon was gone, but the Ford Prefect had not moved.

Later, at the Inquest, Mr Batiste was asked to indicate on a map the position of the Ford Prefect that he had seen. The position he indicated was the same position in which Bogle's Ford Prefect was later found. It is believed that Mr Batiste had no opinion on the Bogle-Chandler case.

The documentary Who Killed Dr Bogle and Mrs Chandler suggested that it was Batiste who covered the bodies, and that he'd lied about his involvement when questioned by the police.

In 1965, one of Mr Batiste's greyhounds, Best Sun, won "The Champion of Champions" race at Harold Park. He was a well-known figure in greyhound circles.

On 10th October 1977, Mr Batiste died of cancer.
